Is your Sunday morning meeting the same thing as your church?
This question may not be your first one, but we think it's an important question to answer. Though we regularly meet as a community on Sunday mornings, we are a church on Friday nights and Monday mornings just as much as on a Sunday. The church is the people, not the place, and wherever our people our gathering together, you'll find that the church, too, is meeting.
What does a normal Sunday morning meeting look like?
Our meeting starts at 10:00. After singing three or four songs, there is a teaching that lasts about 30 to 40 minutes. We close the meeting with announcements, and then there is a potluck immediately following.
A potluck, really?
Really. We love the picture of the early Christians in the book of Acts (Acts 2:42-48) and want to imitate that as best we can. All are invited, and the Lord will provide enough for everyone. You are always welcome to contribute to the potluck, but bringing a dish is never required to share in the meal.
What kind of music do you play on Sundays?
Hebrews 13:15 says "Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name." We think it is important to begin our meetings with music in order to settle our hearts from the distractions of the week and to joyfully acknowledge the power, love, and majesty of God.
Our musical style varies, and includes both traditional hymns and modern songs.
Do you provide childcare?
We have two different classes in our Children's Ministry that begin after the musical portion of the meeting, a nursery for infants up to four-year-olds, and an older classroom for ages 5-11. You are also welcome to keep your children with you during the service.
Do you have communion on Sundays?
Communion is a ritual that Jesus left with his disciples to remember his death until he returns (1 Corinthians 10:23-26). We share together in communion typically about once a month using crackers and non-alcoholic grape juice.
How can I give to Desert's End?
We don't pass any kind of offering plate on Sunday mornings. If you would like to make a donation or a tithe, there is a donation box in the back of the room.
