In the middle of Jacob’s story arc, there is a chapter that can seem a little out of place. The story of Jacob’s daughter, Dinah, and her defilement is a story that stirs a lot of emotion in the reader. And that was part of Moses’ goal in including this story into his history lesson for the Israelites. Moses wanted them to Isreal to learn some very key lessons from this sad story.
“Meanwhile, Jacob’s sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were shocked and furious, because Shechem had done an outrageous thing in Israel by sleeping with Jacob’s daughter—a thing that should not be done.” Genesis 34:7
