In 1 Corinthians 4, Paul describes a life of disrepute that he and his fellow apostles live. He tells us that this is a result of following after the gospel because to the rest of the world we will look like fools. They will see us as the garbage of the world.
“When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we entreat. We have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, the refuse of all things.” 1 Corinthians 4:12-13
