As the Israelites head away from the Red Sea, they find themselves in an unusual situation; they have no water to drink. After all of God's amazing miracles leading them out of Egypt, they are now in the dry wilderness with bitter water and bewilderment.

"And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet." Exodus 15:24-25
