For most of Jacob's life, he was a deceiver and manipulator, constantly trying to scheme his way through situations. But in Genesis 32, God brings Jacob to a turning point where he must confess his utter insufficiency before God. In the story of Jacob wrestling with God, we see God draw out a humility and faith in Jacob that we have not seen in his life up to this point and God brings Jacob to the end of himself in order that a new man, Israel, might be born. "Then he said, 'Let me go, for the day has broken.' But Jacob said, 'I will not let you go unless you bless me.' And he said to him, 'What is your name?' And he said, 'Jacob.' Then he said, 'Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.'” Genesis 32:26-28
